🐾💸 Of Borrowing, Barking, and Blinding Arrogance A Civic Tragedy in Two Acts, Featuring Mildred, Blazer, and the Ghost of Common Sense

By

Once upon a tower block, not-so-far-away, our dear Mildred and her trusty squire Blazer Selfworth once again graced us with their infallible judgment. You see, the same duo who heroically refused to pass a borrowing by-law (you know, the one that could’ve actually lowered our condo fees) are also the ones who thought accommodating a legitimate service dog request was simply beneath their divine station.

Why, you ask?

Because inflated egos are highly adaptable. They can apply themselves equally to fiscal mismanagement and human rights violations. It’s really quite versatile – like duct tape, but stickier and less useful.

Act I: “Let Them Pay Special Assessments”
Faced with rising costs, most reasonable people might consider, say, borrowing at a reasonable rate to soften the blow. Not Mildred. No, our Dame of Denial declared that borrowing was “too much trouble.” Instead, she chose the Marie Antoinette route:

“No borrowing by-law? Then let them eat special assessments!”

Act II: “The Dog Must Go”
Enter: A resident with a disability. A service dog prescribed by medical professionals. A request grounded in law and decency.
But alas, Blazer Selfworth sniffed, straightened his red shorts, and proclaimed:

“We simply cannot accommodate every dog that barks!”
(Note: This one doesn’t bark. But details are for peasants.)

The Grand Irony
Two entirely different scenarios – one financial, one medical – but the same response: No.
No, because their pride couldn’t survive the idea that someone else might know better. No, because ego management is the only management they’ve mastered. And no, because compassion and competence never made it onto the AGM agenda.

So here we are. Fees are high, humanity is low, and the only thing Mildred’s board accommodates is its own arrogance.

Next AGM’s Agenda Proposal:

  1. Buy a mirror.
  2. Use it.
  3. Apologize.
