🚫💰 No Taxation Without Representation

🎭 History Repeats Itself

In 1773, the colonists in Boston had had enough. Britain was taxing them without giving them a seat in Parliament. Their answer? Dump the tea into the harbour and shout loud enough for the world to hear: “No taxation without representation!”

Fast-forward to today. Our condo board has pulled its own stunt: a special assessment. But the spirit is the same – imposing financial burdens on people who have no real say in how the decisions were made.

💰 The Modern “Tea Tax”

  • Colonists were taxed for tea they didn’t want.
  • We are taxed for projects we didn’t approve, costs we never saw, and legal bills we never authorized.
  • They hid the facts; we are told to “just pay up.”

🪧 No Representation, Just Intimidation

The cry of 1773 was about representation. Colonists demanded that if they were footing the bill, they deserved a voice. Today, the board waves off owners’ questions, silences dissent at meetings, and hides critical documents. Representation? Only in theory.

🚢 From Boston Harbour to the Condo Lobby

Back then, it was tea overboard. Today, it’s our bank accounts thrown overboard. Instead of crates of tea floating in the water, we have homeowners drowning in invoices and legal threats.

⚖️ The Lesson We Should Have Learned

History is blunt: people will only tolerate so much before they rebel. The Boston Tea Party lit the fuse that created a new nation.
Our “special assessment tea party” should light the fuse for a new chapter in our condo – one with accountability, transparency, and actual representation.

👉 So when you see that fat invoice in your mailbox, remember this isn’t just a bill. It’s a test. Will we be passive taxpayers, or will we finally say: No taxation without representation?
