📞 A (Very Welcome) Surprise Call from Our Ward Councillor

When people say “we’ll be in touch,” they usually don’t mean today.
This time, they did.

Surprisingly – and genuinely appreciated – our ward councillor for Waterloo called us today.

No assistants. No delay. No scripted response.
Just a direct call.

👀 Why This Matters

Follow-through is rare, especially when the issues are:

  • uncomfortable,
  • complex,
  • or inconvenient.

A call isn’t a solution. But it is a signal. It says this isn’t being quietly shelved or reduced to background noise. It shows respect – something residents don’t get nearly often enough.

🔁 From a Call to Continued Engagement

This wasn’t a one-off courtesy check-in. The questions were thoughtful. The tone was measured. The interest felt real.

And importantly, this conversation builds on what’s already been set in motion:

We’re meeting for coffee in February to continue the discussion in more depth.

That matters. Follow-up is where listening turns into accountability.

🌱 Cautious, But Genuine Optimism

I’m not pretending a phone call fixes systemic problems. It doesn’t.

But when an elected official takes the initiative to call, listen, and commit to continued engagement, it creates something rare in civic life – momentum based on trust, not pressure.

📞 The call was unexpected.
👂 The listening felt genuine.
☕ And February is already on the calendar.

Sometimes, progress starts quietly – and this felt like one of those moments.
