🧠 Are We Truly Homo Sapiens?

By

Scientists tell us that humans are called Homo sapiens.

Latin for wise man.

Now let’s pause for a moment and admire that classification.

Wise.

Because clearly the species that invented:

  • nuclear weapons
  • reality television
  • online comment sections
  • and condominium board meetings

must truly represent the pinnacle of wisdom.

šŸŒ Exhibit A: The Planet

Across the globe we observe humanity demonstrating its exceptional intelligence by:

  • starting wars over lines drawn on maps
  • torturing one another in the name of ideology
  • lying professionally in politics
  • and arguing on the internet with strangers named DragonWarrior1987

Historians will surely look back and say:

ā€œYes, this species deserved the title sapiens.ā€

šŸ¢ Exhibit B: The Condominium

But if one wishes to truly study the human condition, there is no need to analyze geopolitics.

Just attend a condo board meeting.

There, in a fluorescent-lit room with lukewarm coffee and passive-aggressive agendas, the full brilliance of humanity reveals itself.

In our building alone we have witnessed:

  • fierce ideological conflicts about hallway cleanliness
  • covert surveillance operations targeting elderly women feeding squirrels
  • existential debates about whether a service dog is ā€œservicey enoughā€

Anthropologists could write entire dissertations.

šŸ” The Condo as a Microcosm of Civilization

The parallels with world history are striking.

Nations fight wars.
In condos, people fight about balcony enclosures.

Empires collapse over power struggles.
In condos, people stage coups over proxy votes signed by residents who don’t remember signing anything.

Governments spread propaganda.
In condos, rumours circulate in elevators with astonishing efficiency.

The scale may be smaller.

The absurdity is identical.

šŸ’ A Troubling Hypothesis

After careful observation, one begins to wonder whether the classification system may require revision.

Perhaps we are not Homo sapiens after all.

Perhaps the correct scientific term should be:

Homo condominiumensis

A peculiar species characterized by:

  • territorial behaviour around parking spaces
  • intense emotional reactions to hallway salt
  • and a mysterious obsession with titles like Board President

šŸ¤” Final Question for the Philosophers

If wisdom truly defines our species…

Why does it disappear the moment someone is given a proxy form and a laminated badge that says ā€œDirectorā€?

Voltaire once wrote that humans are the only animals who blush – and the only ones who should.

After observing condo politics for a while, one might add:

We are also the only species capable of turning a perfectly ordinary building into a miniature theatre of human folly.

Which raises the final, deeply philosophical question:

Are we truly Homo sapiens… or just very dramatic primates with meeting minutes?
